Lightning Ridge

Lightning Ridge is in central northern New South Wales and is considered the main source of high-quality black opal. Opal was first discovered in the late 1880’s but it was not in high demand until the 1980’s – 1990’s. Black opal is the most rare and highly sought-after form of opal. They come in every color of the rainbow but have a dark body tone which makes the colors rich and intense.
